Who is Dave the Raw Food Trucker?
In 2006 Dave Conrardy was a long distance truck driver. He weighed in at over 400 pounds and had stage 1 colon cancer, diabetes, high blood pressure, kidney damage and many other ailments. Being on the road for 70 hours a week meant that he was eating when he could at take out restaurants or steak houses. His diet consisted mainly of red meat and chips. Along with his poor diet he was taking over 20 different medications just to keep himself alive. The doctors told him that his kidney damage was irreversible and he himself knew he was walking the path to death.
His one hope was that he would see his son and daughter graduate.
What changed the trucker’s life?
It wasn’t until he met David and Youdit Whiting that his life changed forever.
He met the couple when he was teaching them how to drive a ‘big rig’. The Whitings followed a raw, organic, vegan diet. At first Dave the Raw food Trucker, as he’s now known, was sceptical because he couldn’t believe that diet alone would be able to make him feel better.
As I’m sure many people believe, if doctors were aware of what raw food could do, surely they would recommend it to everyone.
That may be the case, but I am hearing on the news all the time about introducing more fruit and vegetables into our diet; maybe that’s their subtle hint!
How did Dave’s life change?
Dave started by eating mostly raw foods and began juicing fresh vegetables. After just days he was able to come off his diabetes medication and after 6 months he was cancer free and that was without chemotherapy or radiation. His kidney was fully functioning again and within less than two years he had lost 230 pounds.
He said in an interview “I have weaned off all but one of my medications, and have as much energy as I did in my late twenties, and there’s an emotional shift as well – I’m no longer angry.”
Dave began following Dr. Gabriel Cousens’ book ‘There is a cure for Diabetes’ http://www.amazon.co.uk/There-Cure-Diabetes-21-day-Program/dp/1556436912/ref=sr_1_2?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1408956759&sr=1-2&keywords=there+is+a+cure+for+diabetes Dr Cousens is an American physician who practices holistic medicine.
After taking the 21 day challenge, Dave felt so fantastic that he continued following the raw food diet.
He admits that he was addicted to food, meat especially. But after just 2 weeks of mainly following a raw food diet Dave realised that he no longer had the cravings for meat he’d had previously. The raw food trucker’s diet now consists of raw organic fruits, vegetables and nuts. It is high in protein, yet low in fat and sugar. And it is full of dark green leafy juice.
Dave Conrardy is now a big name associated with truck driver health because of his experiences and his story. He has heard a lot of people state that they just don’t have the time or the money to follow this diet. His answer to them has been that he managed to follow a raw food diet as a trucker working 70 hours a week so if he could find the time anyone could. He also states, where money is concerned, that following a raw food diet is cheaper that medical bills.
No longer a trucker Dave travels the world giving talks about how he took control of his own destiny and is alive even though years ago he thought his life was almost over. He is a great symbol of how it is never too late to change your life.
Dave the Raw Food Trucker is just one life that has been changed by following the raw food diet. There are many stories about him because his life was changed so radically, but there are others out there whose lives have been altered just as much by eating more raw food. You will notice in this piece that he started by following mainly a raw food diet, he didn’t go completely raw straight away. If you are interested in following a raw food diet and are looking to change your life do make sure that you are still getting all the nutrients that you need from food and always check with a medical practitioner before you start to get advice and help where you may need it.
